Drama for Fun is a
non-profit community Amateur Dramatics group in
Portslade near Brighton, East Sussex. Our plays so far
have been conceived and written by the group but we are
thinking of also producing plays written by other
playwrights. Drama for Fun used to be an adult education
class at Portslade Community College taught by Saskia
Wesnigk-Wood. Every year the students would say: "We want
to do a play!" So eventually it happened and this group
is the result. Lily and the Magic Book
was our first
production as an independent non-profit community group.
Here
is a list of the
plays we have written and performed so far:
Ocean Liner (Hilarity
on the High Seas; 7f, 4m),
In a Murderous Manor
(9-10 f, 3-4m)
And our
pantos:
Lily and the Magic Book (a
topsy-turvy pantomime; 9-10 f, 4-5m, 2 children);
Lily's Magical Quest (9-11 f, 4-5 m (some
doubling) 7 children in one or two scenes only)
The Banana Dialogues,
an evening of sketches
Jim's Underwater Adventure (a fishy tale
pantomime, 3 m, 7 f, some children)
George and
the Dragon (a 10-minute narrated play, 4m, 5-10 f,
some children).
Toys in Trouble!
(a panto for
all ages, 13 actors, 3-4m, 9-10 f, children)
All our
plays are available for performance by other groups for a small fee.
Please contact us for further details
mail@drama4fun.com.
You can
find out more about these plays on our "previous productions
page".
Drama for Fun is looking for new members, so if you are interested in
acting, writing plays or helping back-stage, let us
know. As we rehearse in the evenings, we cannot have
children under 16 joining the group, though they may
appear on stage in small roles if they are the children
of group members. There is a 20 pound membership fee and
a 5 pound monthly subscription. We have regular
meetings, a constitution and a membership agreement form
which you would need to sign.
On July 13th at 2pm we Took
part in the brighton Carnival Parade
(West Street to MAdeira Drive)
